The Second International Workshop on Low Intensity Conflict, (ILIC 97)

The Second International Workshop on Low Intensity Conflict builds on the success of the first workshop held in 1995. The first day of the ILIC’97 workshop concentrated on present and future low intensity conflict environments and included welcoming remarks and papers on the nature and challenges of low intensity conflict; demography, security dilemmas, and the severity of ethnic wars, troubled states in today’s world; the problems and consequences of democratisation, conflicts in the shadows of major powers, the modelling and analysis of societal conflict; indications of social change and emergent conflict; regional aspects of future conflict; and organised crime as a consequence of political conflict. A review of the after-dinner speech presented at the Royal Swedish Society of Naval Sciences is also provided.
